What We Do
Cognitive Resonance is a "think and do" tank and consultancy organization.
We want to influence how people think about generative AI systems, using the lens of cognitive science. Understanding this science will make AI more intelligible and less mysterious.
We also want to influence what people do with generative AI. We see AI as a useful tool, but one with predictable strengths and limitations. We want to advise key organizations – including investors, philanthropists, and policymakers – so that they will make better decisions involving AI.
Long term, Cognitive Resonance will be successful if generative AI is no longer treated as an inexplicable "black box," and is used in ways that are socially beneficial and in harmony with human cognition.

BENJAMIN RILEY
Founder
• Founded Deans for Impact in 2014, a national education nonprofit that connected cognitive science to teacher training
• Raised $23 million over seven years and built sustainable organization with 15 full-time employees
• Created and edited The Science of Learning document setting forth principles of cognitive science for education – more than 500k views to date
• Ideas on cognitive science have appeared in various publications and media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, TEDx, and Le Monde
